Gfinity (AIM: GFIN), a world-leading esports and gaming solutions provider, today announces it has been appointed by BAT to deliver the ‘Beat Your Heroes’ live-streamed virtual races of its new VELO ESERIES with Formula 1 team, McLaren Racing. ‘Beat Your Heroes’ sees adult sim racing fans compete for the chance to take on a suite of celebrities and YouTube talent in a series of four virtual races, including UK musician Craig David.
The VELO ESERIES is an exciting new content series, marking VELO’s expansion into the world of esports as part of the brand’s ongoing global partnership with McLaren Racing. The campaign, which launched this month, is made up of four series, each culminating in a ‘Beat Your Heroes’ event. Each of these live-streamed races will pit 18 fans against two celebrities on Codemasters’ F1 2020. For the chance to take on their heroes, prospective contestants, who must be over the age of 18, will compete in online qualifiers, where they must beat a lap time set by one of the VELO ESERIES drivers. Players who beat this minimum hot lap time automatically qualify for the chance to be selected to take part in one of the four live events racing against their heroes online. The 18 lucky contestants will be selected at random from this pool of qualifiers.
Gfinity has been appointed to design and develop the tournament microsite (veloeseries.com) and provide competition operations. Gfinity will also support the creation of a digital production and is responsible for the production of each live-race broadcast, hosted from the Gfinity Arena.
Registration for the qualifiers for the first Beat Your Heroes race with Craig David and social media star, Supercar Blondie is now open until 31 January. The live events will each consist of three races and will air on 6 February, 6 March, 3 April and 1 May on VELO’s You Tube.
