Overview
Gfinity was selected by Activision to operate the third Call of Duty World League event of the season in May 2019. Activision wanted to host a world-class event from a large-scale venue in the UK that involved both professional and amateur players in an attempt to encourage more European fans to engage with the CWL.
Our Approach
The tournament was held over three days at the Copperbox Arena in London. It consisted of a 16-team professional competition with $325,000 in prize money and a 100-team open amateur tournament with more than 500 players.
Gfinity utilised the Gfinity Esports Platform (GEP) to manage both tournaments efficiently and introduced new player features like SMS match alerts, GEP-integrated tournament update screens around the venue, and a publicly accessible fan web site to keep up with all of the tournament action in real-time.

The weekend was a tremendous success with spectator tickets sold out and over 3,000 fans in attendance each day. There were more than 1.3 million hours watched from those at home with peak concurrent viewers of more than 88,000, which worked out to an increase of roughly 50% more concurrent viewership than previous Call of Duty events in the UK.
